Blue Collar Post Collective

Blue Collar Post Collective is not a union. It’s not a guild. It’s not a subscription or a society and it’s certainly not a user group.

Blue Collar Post Collective is where anyone in our industry can show up to meet like minded people, to be supported, to learn, and to grow.

BCPC started in New York City and just this summer has expanded to Los Angeles with BCPC West. I am honored and excited to be a part of the planning committee for the fledgling West Coast side of BCPC.

BCPC is an accessible grassroots non-profit focused on supporting emerging talent in post production.

Getting involved is easy – just join the Facebook group and say hi to the 2,200+ existing members. People around the world are posting questions, opportunities, and information at all hours of the day.

If you live in NYC or LA then there are a few other ways to get involved:

  • Meetups: Once a month BCPC hosts completely free meetups. Never having been to one in NYC I can only confirm that the two West Coast meetups so far have been incredible. People from all experience levels and jobs in post just hanging out at a bar in Hollywood is my idea of a fun time. I’m sure New York is cool too.
  • Panels: BCPC West is in the middle of a summer series of panels focusing on different aspects of being a post production professional that don’t necessarily directly relate to the tech and specs you normally see. Due to space limitations there are limited tickets for the panel series, but they are live broadcast and posted for posterity.
  • Other Events: Aside from Meetups and Panels you’ll see a variety of other events like the Facebook Live Q&A with Al Mooney of Adobe. We’re always looking for fun ways to get people out of the machine rooms and edit bays and hanging out with others in their field.

The takeaway from all this is that whether you live in Los Angeles or New York City and can attend the events or are only able to participate through Facebook, Blue Collar Post Collective is an incredible group of people working in post interested in meeting you, helping you, and learning from you.

Keep an eye on the Facebook Group page for the upcoming events. BCPC West’s next meetup is Saturday, August 20th and our next panel[1] is Saturday, August 13th. See you there!

  1. The panel is about staying mentally healthy in this industry and it’s moderated by me!  ↩
